MACHINE POLISHING

Many people, when talking about how good a car looks, will talk about it being in ‘showroom condition”. Sadly, many cars that are brand new and leaving the showroom are already showing signs of poor care or paint defects that have not been corrected or removed by the manufacturer. You’d rightly expect the car to be 100% perfect but in reality this is rarely the case. This is why many quality car detailers offer a ‘new car protection’ package that will include a good deal of machine polishing and potentially a hard ceramic coating too.

As cars get older it is inevitable that they will fall victim to swirls from poor washing techniques, scratches from hedgerows and etching from bird droppings. Removing these defects by hand is incredibly labour intensive and in most cases impossible. Most of these defects can only be removed with mechanical intervention.  Machine polishing.

The world of machine polishing and its many terms can be confusing and bewildering to the customer. Single stage enhancement, two stage correction, pad/polish combination, rotary, dual action, forced rotation, swirls, marring, blemishes, holograms, overspray, pig tails, sanding marks, compound, heavy cut, light cut, burn through and much more. Finding someone who cares for your car as much as you do and will not oversell or hoodwink you into additional services is also a concern. Fear not. We are here to help.

Every car is different and the expectations of every customer varies too. As such we place great importance on arranging a no obligation visit to view your car. This allows us to examine the paint on your car and discuss with you the best options to achieve the results you want. It could be that machine polishing is something you think you need but after discussion with us the result you want can be achieved in other ways.

If machine polishing your car is agreed upon then we then discuss what you want to achieve, how you want your car to look and what fits your budget. We will also discuss with you how the appearance on completion can be dramatically undermined by poor washing processes afterwards.

Machine polishing is not a quick process. It takes time, patience and a lot of preparation before the work can begin. Incorrect machine polishing techniques and pad/polish combinations can actually induce more damage to the paint. We take machine polishing seriously. We only use Rupes machines (which are regarded as the best machines out there) along with their pads and polishes and we are certified by the manufacturer in their use.
